![]() Yes, I know there is a cheaper, basic horse archer that stays in line after upgrades as well, but still, you get my point. You can, of course, upgrade your buildings, but that requires growth, or raise cash cow hordes, but those require growth, even more time and external protection. So, all in all, 72000 points of damage and every loss of a horse archer in battle cuts deeper in your flesh. you can upgrade your horse archers upkeep costs twice the amount of money, so all in all, you have 80 bows for 50 points of damage, with 18 arrows. Easy math: You are capable of dealing 115200 points of damage. Field two units of horse archers for 160 bows, with - let's say a semi-random number - 16 arrows for each, and 45 damage. Let me put it this way:įor a given amount of money, you can either If you are a horde faction, especially the huns, then you are somewhat scr*wed on the other hand. This isn't too much of a problem either, if you are a kingdom with a land, after all, if you are obliged to use only noble cavalry in your entire faction for no reason at all, and you need money for it, you can just take new territories. Well, if I don't count the tier-system which practically makes sometimes researching stuff a disadvantage. I don't think there is any problem with the tech tree. Yeah, it makes them a little harder to play at the start, but what fun would the game be if all the factions felt the same? And again, the Nordic factions are intended to have flimsy armies for the first good chunk of the campaign. Thrall units are immune to seasickness for all Nordic factions, not just the Danes. Their faction traits have a huge effect on that, as well. It forces you to make use of raiding tactics rather than brute force and conquest. The Nordic factions have rosters that are a bit rough at the start and that's intentional. You have to remember that the campaign was designed with more in mind than simply making all the factions totally equal. within 25 turns you can field a full army of hirdmen (as your front line the defense and armor will stand against just about anything), huscarls(shock inf with more charge bonus then the calv you get?), warhounds(what better to chase your enemies who are running with there tail between there legs after the Horse-men charged into there flank, UNLEASH THE HOUNDS OF WAR), and a unit or two of archers (whistling shot and fire arrow, oh wait you have morale? no you don't, oh wait your hiding behind a building? no you're not its burning.) The Jute's on the other hand are completely OP Hirdmen and Huscarls from the same building?!?! but oh wait you also get profit from the same building. The Danes are a bit limited being that the special units are ships, however you circumvent this by keeping your navy within reach of your land army. Tl dr - The Germanic tech trees get their first upgrades for mainline units in 5 and 11 turns, the Nordic tech trees get them 11 and 18 turns.Īgreed, the starting roster for the Norse is very bad, Nordic band's only use is charging into a calv charge so that your actual troops don't get destroyed HOWEVER, if you look at the Jute's and the Dane's within 2 dozen turns you can get to there special units which are incredibly powerful. So that means the Norse Spearman is a super **** compared to the Germanic Spearman right? Not really, if you go into a custom battle, you'll see that they're basically the same unit, but Germanic Spearmen have slightly more armor and then Norse Axe Warband has slightly more armor than the Germanic Warband. ![]() You don't get your Nordic Axe Warband until the 17th turn. ![]() Nordic Spearmen would take your 18th turn to research if you go straight for it. Looking at the Norse tech tree, you don't get to upgrade Nordic Band to Nordic Brigade until the 11th turn. You go from Germanic Band to Germanic Warband in your 5th turn, and then Germanic Levy to Germanic Spearmen in your 11th turn. With the Franks, you can upgrade your most generalist front line infantry fast. Still, it's not a terribly big difference between the two rosters, and the Norse one is definitely not unplayably bad.īut as you start teching up, it's apparent to me that the Norse have a sort of boring period where you don't get anything good. The Frankish roster has a shock cavalry and a melee infantry that can do damage unlike Nordic Band, but also has Bagaudae, which is kind of like Nordic Band without a javelin, so I can't help but feel it's the Norse Roster plus a little extra. Let's look at the Frankish units that you can recruit without any tech whatsoever. These are the basic Nordic units that you can recruit without any tech whatsoever. 2K A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia.847 A Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai. ![]()
